Carbon brush holders and friction discs developed with funds from the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) passed post-installation examinations on Dec 11.

The examination was conducted by the Shenyang Railway Bureau and the Chinese rolling stock manufacturer CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co Ltd under the China Railway Rolling Stock Corp (CRRC).

The products, core devices for China Railway High-speed (CRH) trains, outperformed overseas rivals with a working length of more than 2.4 million kilometers. The components are less costly and showed little abrasion loss within the testing ride of 300,000 kilometers. CRRC has agreed to a bulk order of the two critical components as contracted for its Electric Multiple Units (EMUs).

The components were co-made with all intellectual property rights owned by organizations involving Sinomach’s wholly owned subsidiary CMEC, and Southwest Jiaotong University, one of China’s most prestigious institutions of higher education known as “the Cornell of the East”. The accomplishment effectively rids the country of dependence on foreign suppliers for these integral products. In the future, the two devices expect to be applied to all CRH series trains, including exported ones.
