Flaxseed is the seed of annual herbaceous plant -flax. Such a reddish brown fruit has extremely strong nutty flavor, and so do even in baked goods. In fact, bakers often use such a grain in nearly all foods such as cookies, cakes and breads in many European countries.

Flaxseed does not contain cholesterol, and contains rich fiber and N-3 fatty acid, whereas N-3 helps to prevent Heart disease and other chronic diseases.

Omega-3 fatty acid belongs to a polyunsaturated fatty acid and is one of the most important components of human body cell structure and also a normal essential material for cell membrane operating. therefore, It is also called as an essential fatty acid. Flaxseed contains extremely-rich essential fatty acid Omega-3: One tablespoon of flaxseed contains 3800 mg Omega-3 fatty acid, equivalent to10 times of that in deep sea fish oil, but it has no shortcomings of fishy smell, high cholesterol and saturated fatty acid.

Flaxseed can reduce high cholesterol in blood by 25% and triglycerides in blood by 65% and convert excessive low-density cholesterol (LDL) into cholic acid to excrete from human body.

Production places of flaxseed in the world include Canada, China, Argentina and America. In China, main production areas of flaxseed include Huining in Gansu province, Bashang region in Hebei province, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Heilongjiang and Yunnan. If the production area is  of higher latitude and more arctic-alpine, higher is its α-linolenic acid level, and higher its nutrition and food therapy value is. Canada is close to Three Big Grasslands called as “World Granary” in the north pole (northern latitude of 51-60°),and is the best well recognized flaxseed production place in the world.
